BOOK ONE - WELCOME TO THE NEIGHBORHOOD

The sun rises ever higher on the city of Neo-Nowhere; the shadows of the massive architecture growing ever larger, and the populace
continuing it's normal, every-day routine. Going from one place, to the next, but never really going anywhere outside the city. This metropolitan city has it's own little corner of existence to brood in, every piece of it never able to leave, but always expanding and teeming with life. The civilians live out their days as they see fit, and continue on with their existence in complete ignorance, never questioning how they got here, or if there's even an outer realm outside of Neo-Nowhere. Neo-Nowhere is what it is: nothing more, and nothing less...

...At least, until one day...

A normal day, as it were. The standard, every-day consumers were crawling the shopping mall, looking for whatever nick-knack or useless bobble they could blow their money on. As the crowds pass by, a cloaked figure ducks out of the crowd, and into a nearby bathroom. Once inside, the cloaked figure shuts the stall door behind him. An impatient sweat begins to grow on his brow, but he quickly wipes it away, regaining his professional repose and focus. Lying the briefcase down gently, the cloaked man rigorously, yet cautiously removes lock after lock after lock, slowly but surely unbinding the dangerous contents inside.

"Sickening...Just sickening...Everyday, these brainless fools scour this city, taking the Heart's supreme gift of life, and ruining...Nay, shitting on everything it's done for them. Look at them...These brainless consumers shambling across the mall like a bunch of idiots, hungry for their own foolish self-gratification."

More and more locks are slowly undone, as a pulse of energy can be felt emanating from the case with every further twitch of a finger...

"For years, I've searched tirelessly, and for years, I've withstood these worms that I writhe at the fact of sharing mortality with...But no more. Soon, they'll all be my puppets, and I'll finally be able to achieve the status that I've yearned for nigh on 40 years: the status of a god."

Only one lock remains: a number lock. With a pleased look in his eyes, he rolls the numbers backward, and forward into the correct combination...

"4...3...4...2...7..."

The lock clicked, and a plasma like energy oozed out of the locks, emanating with an other-worldly essence. Drops of this effervescent goo started to drip onto the floor, but molded into a black, swirling ball of black ooze, still drooling with dark energy, and pulsating with sadistic vibes. Eagerly, but still cautiously, the cloaked man scooped up the black orb, grinning with satisfaction. Not a moment later, footsteps could be heard as another man walked into the restroom, and the sound of running water filled the echoing space around them. Without another wasted breath, the cloaked individual stepped out of the stall, and walked towards the sink as if to start washing his hands. Without warning, the cloaked hellion threw the other man into the wall, menacingly walking over and grasping his throat with a vicious grip. A hellish fire in his eyes, his grip tightened, as his other hand thrust down the man's throat, force-feeding him the dark ooze. He struggled, but could not match the cloaked devil's raw strength, and choked on the orb, almost to the point of death. His body thrashed around in pain and fear, trying to feign his inevitable end. Finally, his violent movement ceased.

A few moments of silence...Suddenly, the man drew a disturbing breath, and was silent for a few more spare moments. He looked up into the cloaked man's eyes, with his own, which had turned black and cold. A soul no longer lived in this man's heart, for the orb had turned it malicious and hungry...

A few groans slid out of his lungs, but then, comprehensible words followed. A devil's voice spoke these words:

"This gift you've bestowed upon me...It is a gift, and a curse...I will use it for every malicious intent you've graced it with, and more. I am yours to command...'Father.'"

With another devilish grin, and a forceful nod, the cloaked man shifted towards the bathroom door. Before stepping out, he turned back to his "offspring" and uttered one last thing:

"You know what to do, 'Fiend.'"

Walking out and into the crowd, a few shrieks started to emerge from behind him. The cloaked man let out a horrible chuckle.

"Hahaha...'consumers...' Hahaha...I'm too much..."
Mere minutes passed, and screams could be heard for hours, the intensity and number growing by the minute. Soulful mall-goers no longer drew a human breath. Claws and teeth now stretched as far as hands, nails, and flesh. Skin, and bone now grind under the tooth, and get stuck between the gums. The survivors are now dwindling, and the zombies are growing...The infestation has begun.

+--_-- +_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _+--_--+

Blackness. Pure blackness. Where am I? And...why can't I breath. I can't...breath...

Thrashing, and the ominous darkness were the only things in Drake's mind. It filled his eyes and his lungs to a maddening degree. Worse than an itch you can't scratch...Far worse. Death crossed his mind, as he continued to wonder how he got in this horrible place, and why? His stomach grew sick, his face hot with aggravation and doubt. He continued to flail his arms around, when suddenly...Light filled his eyes, and air rushed into his lungs...

"Oh, morning time."

Tossing aside the hot, strangling blanket that covered him, Drake squinted over and over, clenching fists to rub the sleep from his eyes. Tossing the hair out of his face, he reached for his tea-shade sunglasses, positioning them awkwardly on the tip of his nose. He pushed them up, but they just kept sliding back down, again, and again. After numerous attempts, Drake simply shrugged it off, and reached for the second thing he always grabbed first-thing in the morning...

...His bass, Ivan, of course. With the mere flicking of a switch, the cranking of a knob, and a single pluck of his string, the intensity of the note he played echoed for blocks, and awoke the soul. The sound blasted with energy, shattering windows and setting off car alarms 12 houses down.

"...Shit. I knew those new strings were a little sensitive. I probably woke up the neighbors dead cat with that one!"

And that it did, along with a few hundred other lifeless ghouls who had succumb to the zombie uprising earlier that morning. The shuffling of feet, and the groans of hungry monsters outside was not heard by Drake, however, who had managed to drown out the sound with his own noise. A bolero of bass had continued to spread over the surrounding neighborhood, not ceasing for a moments rest...

The downstairs door busted open, as menacing hands continued to push forward and find the source of the loud noise...and then devour whoever was causing it. One managed to work it's way up the stairs, and shuffle towards Drake's bedroom. Staring at the mirror in his room, Drake didn't notice the zombie stepping in the bedroom door, licking it's lips at the tasty meat sack in front of it. The zombie drew closer, and lunged forward to grab onto Drake, hoping to dig it's teeth into his living flesh. Drake turned at the last minute, feeling the zombie's cold presence. Latching accidentally onto his bass strap, the strap broke off, dropping the bass from midair. Upon hitting the floor, the impact shot forth a shock-wave of pure un-adult rated sound, blasting the zombie back through the bedroom door, and landing back on the first floor, his head exploding from the impact of the landing.

In sheer awe of what just happened, Drake rushed over to the balcony to see where his assailant went. Still bleeding out from the impact of the landing, the zombie lay there motionless, no longer a threat. Slowly, Drake descended the stairs, inspecting the re-dead individual who'd made quite a scoff on his wooden panel flooring. With a nudge of his bass, Drake poked the dead zombie, to insure it was really dead.

"Is this a zombie? What the hell...?"

Determined of what lay ahead, Drake didn't cease to take action. Running back upstairs, he glanced out his window to see a large number of the undead still moving in on his location.

"Crap...Time to make a swift exit."

Opening his window, and leaping across to the neighbors roof, Drake cautiously sneaked past the unsuspecting zombies below him, and continued towards town, unsure, but curious of what had happened. Looking back at the open window for one last moment, he looked down at his bass, with a confident glimmer in his eyes.

"Ivan, buddy. I have a feeling we've got a much sweeter gig in store for us...Too bad the crowd is already dead."

Drip.. Drip.. Drip.
Bursting from the floor violently, hands as black as the night latch on to two Mallgoers' feet, gripping them in place effortlessly as the group of black-eyed crazies chasing them finally gains ground and fills the air with the screams of their victims.

Turning his head, not out of disgust, but boredom, a man in a red coat closes his eyes and half-smiles. "Never was a fan of the mall but I might come here more often now that they've opened up the new buffet." He barks a laugh at that, and opens his eyes, slowly turning back to see how far along the creatures have come with their meal. He feels a slow trickle of wetness running down his left hand somewhere outside of the "void" he has formed in his mind, but it is second-nature to him.

Crunch.

Looking down at his right arm to find a black-eyed freak's teeth set into it, the man's eyes widen in surprise, and then anger at his surprise.
"Idiot!"
Drawing back his left arm, he flicks his hand in a blur of motion, and two long, balanced knives of black steel are between his knuckles.
"Get off of me, worm!" Driving his hand forward, he sinks the two knives into the being's eyes, twists, then forcefully rips them back out and shrugs the even more lifeless body off of his arm, its face spasmatically spouting thick blood. Glancing at the wound, he shakes his head ever so slightly.
"Tch, you really think I'm like the others?"
Closing his eyes, a faint red aura forms around him and is gone so quick it seems to almost have never happened. A moment later, a stream of blood is expelled from the wound, in small spurts, thickened with the taint of the infection. Everything is quiet aside from the gnashing of teeth against flesh as zombies finish their meal, and even that nearly ceases as four set their sites on a new target- the strange man in his dusty, red trenchcoat. Their hunger plain in their dead, lifeless eyes, seems a fine joke to him, as a slow laughter begins, nearly inward at first. Eyes still closed, he can hear their feet dragging towards him as he says,
"Ahah.. haha... You don't even know, do you? How do you not feel it?"
His mouth is quirked in a half-smile, and almost as if he's trying to hold back his obvious amusement.
"How do you not see that I am so much more than you?"
Blood begins to flow in a steady stream from the gash in his left wrist, winding down his palm and through his fingers.
"Idiot. Can't you see I was made by something so much more than the minor magic you come from?!."

Drip.. Drip.. Drip.

One by one, droplets of his blood fall to the ground to paint the tiled floor. Opening his eyes, his laughter breaking through some of his words, "I am.. so much more.. than you!"
For a moment, all is silent, even the groaning of the four creatures before him as they shuffle hesitantly in his direction.
"LOOK INTO THE EYES OF WHAT IS NOT!"
With those words, ringing across the tide of bodies in a sea of decay, his eyes snap open wide and crazed; One eye is light green, if bloodshot, while the other is now a deep red and the pupil a little cat-like in appearance. The open doorway behind him darkens as though it's the darkest of night outside, and on his body, several..eyes.. burst into being. Black distortions that shine and flicker as though they have life.
As the zombies shuffle in the other direction, he begins laughing, if brokenly.

Outside, the mall entrance looks normal, aside from the open doorway being enshrouded in darkness, almost as though the lights are off in the place.
"Ahah.. ahahaha... hahahahahahaa!"

"I'm bored..."

A teenage looking boy, carrying a large object on his back, what it seems to be a spoon wraped in bandages, walks down the street, "This city sucks, there's nobody he-" he stops as he hears soft moans coming from an alley nearby, he rushes towards the alley, the moans turn louder and heavier as he gets closer, a group of 7-8 people stand there, motionless. "Heeey! you guys wanna play a game?" says the teenage boy with a bored expression on his face.

The mob turns around...black, vicious eyes, blood dripping from their mouths, moaning and groaning..."Okay, let's play tag, i'll go first, 10...9..." the mob starts running towards him, viciously groaning, "8...7...6...5..." the blood thirsty mob gets closer, hoping to get a piece of the boy's flesh, "4...3...2...1...", one of the creatures throws itself towards the boy, moutj wide open, showing its sharp teeth."Here i go!" says the boy as he jumps over the creatures' heads, touching one, "Tag~" says the boy as he lands on the ground and begins to run, getting further into the alley.

The boy stops, "A dead end...oh well." he drops the large object on his back on the ground, unwrapping it, revealing a large, silver spoon, he approaches his hand to the spoon, touching it. The spoon begins to glow, emanating a soft, green light. The glowing stops, about twenty smaller spoons lying on the ground where the large spoon was..."One.". The groans get louder, "I should hurry..." grabbing four spoons with each hand, turning them into bunch of small silver spheres, "Two..." The creatures stand infront of him.

"Game over."

Claws and teeth covered in blood rushing towards him, the creatures groaning loudly, eager to eat some of his flesh. The boy swings both arms with great strenght, throwing the spheres, turning them into bigger orbs as soon as they leave his hands..."Three...", hitting the creatures in several parts of their bodies, smashing them against a wall, knocking them dead."Well, that was fun" taking the remaining spoons from the floor, turning them back into a large spoon "Four.", wrapping it with the bandages and strapping it to his back. More moans can be heard in the distance.

"I guess i'll be staying here for a while."

After some time, Drake had grown tired of roof hopping to avoid being detected. As he continued on, he grew more and more careless with his leaps, and payed less and less mind to the hungry demons below him. Suddenly, Drake stopped. The buildings started to go from one story suburban homes, to multiple story tall buildings. A brick wall stopped Drake in his tracks. He could go no further from here.

Drake sat and pondered for a moment, wondering what his next course of action should be. He started to think about his encounter with the zombie in his bedroom...

"Damn, he really went flying when my bass sounded off..."

Staring up at the top of the building next to him, Drake thought of a rather brilliant idea. Standing back up on his feet, he walked back to the opposite end of the house, then turned back towards the taller building, the brick wall still taunting him. Gripping his bass in his hands, Drake looked back one last time.

"Well...Here goes nothing. Let's hope I don't die."

In an instant, Drake took off into a desperate sprint across the roof of the house. Staring intently at the edge of the roof, Drake readied himself as the edge drew closer and closer. Before reaching the edge, Drake made a champion-like leap into the air. Without wasting another moment, Drake aimed Ivan down towards the ground, and slapped out a B note like no other. The noise shot forth, the vibrations beaming off the strings and manifesting into a strong explosive force. The force of this note blasted Drake high into the air, as he cleared the top of the building with an impressive boost of energy, and even a distinctive flair. Drake watched as his body flew into the air, jumping the gap with grace, making it over the top of the building...and dropping him over the edge, and plummeting into the alleyway next to it.

"Crapcrapcrapcrapcrap!"

Falling down the narrow alleyway, Drake's bass strap snagged on the edge of the fire escape, causing it to dangle from the ladder. Ivan's master, however, snagged on nothing, and continued to plummet until finally crashing and landing into an open dumpster.

CRASH!

Luckily for Drake, a number of garbage bags broke his perilous fall. Taking a sigh of relief, Drake started crawling out of the dumpster, when he noticed something tucking on his pant-leg. He looked back in horror to see a hand sticking out of the garbage, pulling on his leg with a sinister grip!

"Go find your own leg, ya freak!"

"SHIT" Chris exclaimed as he hardened the atoms in his right arm. The zombie had came out of the corner of the room and suprised him. Yet the ghoul didn't seem as menacing when he was chomping on a arm as hard as steel. Chris easily pushed the zombie back and when far enough away slammed his arm into the side of it's head. The flesh eating monsters skull spit in two and ignited a blood geysey that cover the entire wall next to him. Exhausted, Chris flopped down on the nice plush bed. He had been at it for days. Fighting off flesh demons, fending for himself, and trying to find anyone else alive. He quickly realized he didn't know where he was. He jumped up from the bed and looked out the window. He was in a city that was for sure but he didn't recognize it. He had ran into the first hotel he saw, realizing it was nice and since the apocalypse everything had become free. He turned back to the bed when he heard a sharp *THUNK*. Startled he glanced back out the window. Hanging by a guitar strap on the fire escape outside was a nicely polished bass. "What the fuck" Chris whispered trying to figure out if what he was seeing was real or not. Finally he opened the window and stepped out onto the fire escape. He looked up and saw the bright blue sky and glanced down to an almost empty alleyway where it looked like two zombies were fighting for scraps in the trash. He picked up the guitar and set it down in the hotel room. "You must be someones" he thought to himself. Almost at once he got an idea he took the bass and brought it out to the empty hallway he clicked the elavator button and waited for an elevator to arrive. As soon as the elevators door opened he put the guitar right next to the recently dead zombie lying on the ground and pushed the 1st floor button. Not wanting the weight or other peoples belongings with him he said goodbye to beautiful instrument as the doors closed. Chris then walked towards the stairs wanting to get farther away from the frighting crowd below him.

Shortly after leaving the alley where he killed the hungry creatures, he glances at another alley in front of him, a short guy with a black shirt and brown hair near a dumpster struggling with one of those creatures, "*Sigh* I guess i'll have to help." reaching his left hand to the leather pouch tied to his belt, grabbing a handful of metal jax, they begin to glow, turning into a spiked knuckle "Five...".

He dashes across the street towards the alley, preparing his left fist, "I won't reach it..." the knuckle begins to glow in a green light, extending the spikes. He throws a punch over the brown haired boy's shoulder, piercing the vicious creature's face, killing it upon contact, blood dripping from the wounds.

"That was easy..."

In the blink of an eye, the zombie tugging on Drake's leg exploded into a fine red meat. A spiked knuckle extending from the zombie's face (or what remained of it, anyway) was attached to a hand, and that to an arm, which from further inspection belonged to a strange looking fellow with purple hair and a frog hat. Finally managing to crawl his way out of the dumpster, Drake wiped the blood off of his hands onto his pants, and then put one out in front of this strange looking guardian angel of his.

"Thanks for the help, pal! Who would have thought a zombie would be crawling in there, eh?"

Immediately, the thought of losing his bass guitar snapped back into Drake's mind, as he looked up towards the fire-escape to see where it had snagged itself. To his surprise, it was nowhere to be seen! Suddenly, Drake got a sick feeling in his stomach...

"I can't lose Ivan! I can't!"

Leaving the purple haired boy, Drake started to make his way into the apartment complex, as he figured someone from inside the building had to have stolen it. Seeing the elevator, Drake paused, and then glanced over at the stairway, wondering which way would be the safest route...

Tristan woke up from the bed he had been sleeping in, at a hotel he found while the obvious owners had been missing. He looked around to see the sun bright and the sky a not so nice color. He got out of the bed and lazily walked to the the bathroom to take a pee. After his pee he decided t shower seeing how he hasn't in a few days. No matter how needy he seemed to be, no one would ever take in his company. Sad.... Tristan took off his close and ran the water cold. He hopped in and washed down and up. With his keen sense of hearing he did hear a small "CREEK" from outside the bathroom. He jumped out of the shower to see a mindless lunatic with blood dripping from his mouth. The man lunged at Tristan. Scared for his life he grabbed the closest thing to him which was the shower curtain, ripped it off and flung it at the man. He ran past the man and pushed him into the bathroom and locked the door behind him. "What the hell was that!?"

Could it have been some sort of drug abuser? Or maybe just some crazy guy? Neither of which would have blood dripping from their mouth. He then thought......."Zombie." "That's impossible!" With the zombie pounding on the door Tristan got scared. No clue on what to do he turned to his book. He read a passage from his foster mother. "Do what you will with your new power Tristan, but you need to focus in times of need. Focus.....Focus........FOCUS. That last word ran through his mind as if it punched him in the face. He focused very hard on how to get rid of that zombie. With his focus he saw his calf burns grow brighter and he held his hand forward. He focused on a bed post. He pulled his hand as if he were pulling on the post and the bed post ripped off of the bed and started to float in the air. He was controlling the post with his mind. HE brought it over to the door and straightened it like a spear. With a strong thrust of his hand the bed post shot at the door and obliterated it, along with the zombie. The zombie was nothing but small pieces and blood after the attack.

"That was incredible. I need to practice more so it doesn't thane so long next time." After everything Tristan decided to put his clothes back on and proceed out the door with is book in hand. He looked down the hall to see an elevator. He ran for it and pressed the down button. Got inside and saw an amazing bass guitar sitting next to him. It was a completely flawless guitar. "Man! I could sell that!" He grabbed it and preceded downward in the elevator.........

Walking up the stairs,Chris decided to stop at the 25th floor. He entered the hallway and noticed immediately how eerie it was in the silent building. Taking in the silence as a sign of safety Chris let his defense slacken. He picked the third door on the right and walked cashually up to it. Letting his left hand soften to a gel like substance he carefully slid it into the keyhole. Then he hardened it only slightly and turned it. The door clicked open, he slipped his hand back out and hardened it all the way (don't even say it). The door swung in on oiled hinges. Stepping into to the room, Chris turned on the light. As soon as the light turned on, a lamp attached to a person came screaming from the corner of the room. Chris retracted a step and grabbed the lamp before it made contact and tossed it aside. Behind the lamp was an attractive yet frail girl about the age of 20. Becoming even more terrified she ran and hid behind the bed. "Its ok, Im not infected I swear. Its ok to come out" Chris called from the doorway. She slowly looked up from the edge of the bed. "I didn't realize this room was taken I'll find another down the hall sorry for bothering you". He turned and started to walk back out the door. "Wait!" She called back at him, "I need help I've been bitten". Chris flinched as if he had been smacked in the face. He turned back and looked into the face of the girl. "Im sorry there's nothing I can do" Chris tried to sympathize but there was no use. "Well can I come with you? Im really scared here alone by myself" she said looking down at her feet. "Well sure you can. Im not about to leave a beautiful girl as yourself all alone in a dangerous place like this. Come on." Chris reached his hand out allowing her to follow him.

As the elevator proceeds downward Tristan hears crackling above him. Suddenly the elevator starts to vibrate vigorously and a zombie busts through the emergency exit on the elevator. As soon as that happened the elevator wires snapped and it fell straight down about 2 floors to the basement. Holding on for dear life with the zombie raging towards him the elevator hit the bottom. Injuring both but not killing them. The bass guitar that was found hit the ground as well and blasted out a giant wave of energy, exploding the zombie leaving, blood and organs all over Tristan and blasting the doors open. Grumbling out the words "Shit man! I just took a shower," Tristan crawled out of the elevator with the bass guitar in hand.

He recovered slightly and stood up. "That guitar saved my life, it must be worth a fortune! Or it might belong to someone...."

Just as Drake was about to start trekking up the stairway, the elevator doors slid open, revealing a kid with dark brownish-orange hair, soaked from head to toe in blood and bile. Drake held his hand over his mouth in disgust, when suddenly, something in the opposite corner of the elevator caught his eye...

"IVAN!"

Drake ran in and nabbed the guitar quicker than he thought his large, clumsy feet could move him. Wiping some of the blood off the body of the guitar, Drake sighed in relief.

"Now how did you end up in here, buddy?"

Drake re-averted his attention to the blood soaked kid in the elevator.

"What's your story, guy? How'd you end up with my bass?"

Tristan came too and saw another man holding the guitar in his hand. Tristan spit out some blood and looked around.

"Let go of that bass! I found it first!"

Tristan got up steadily and hoped the guy holding the bass was not a zombie. Luckily it wasn't by what he could tell.

"No blood dripping from the mouth and no retarded looks. Hey I'm Tristan."

Tristan put his hand out for a handshake and realized he was covered in blood. Tristan took off his coat and his shirt and pants. And poured his canteen of water on him. Barely getting any blood off. He looked up at the guy.

"Sorry for being half naked but I'd rather be naked than covered in bloody clothes yah know? I came from this hotel. Saw this nice bass in the elevator and thought I could sell it. I take it that the bass is yours. Man I could of gotten a fortune for it. I won't fight you. Anyway, I'll be on my way."

Tristan grabbed his bloody clothes and started up the stairs before the man could say one word. Tristan was never good with people talking.......

After the brown haired guy left in a rush without even thanking him, the kid with the weird hat lowers his fist, releasing the weave, "No reward? boo...oh well." looking around, "This looks like a nice place to rest for a bit." sitting next to the dumpster. "Just to make sure..." touches the floor with his hand, it starts to glow, making a dome around the kid, with holes big enough to let oxygen circulate "Eight...". "This will do...later world."

Taking the mystery woman by the hand Chris led her out into the hallway. "So what's your name?" He asked. "My name? . . . . . . . Oh yes my name is. . . . . Jennifer." She answered hesitantly. "Well Jennifer have any ideas of where to go? Cause I'm fresh out.", Jennifer quickly replied "I know of this really super secret place where no zombies can get to us". Chris blurted out "do they have beds?". Jennifer realizing the tired look in his eyes could tell what he meant by the statement. "Yeah and there's a place for you to sleep" she reassured him. "Alright let's get going, I guess your leading the way", she nodded in reply. They both went back to the elevator and tried the buttons but they didn't seem to work. "Crap" Jennifer exclaimed," now we have to walk down 25 flight of stairs". "Hmmmm I have an idea." Chris replied.

"No way Nunh unh, there's no way in hell I'm doing that". "Come on"as Chris tried to convince her "I already showed you I could do it" he said pointing to the shattered porcelain sink. "I don't know about this. . . . . ", " Come on you've been bitten how much longer do you have anyways?" Chris persisted. Jennifer looked at the ground and said "alright I guess your right. So what do you want me to -". Before she could even finish her sentence, Chris launched himself at her tackling her straight out the already opened bathroom window. He turned over in midair so that he was under her and started to harden the density of his atoms. Before he even started to use his powers Jennifer started to scream as loud as she could right in his ear. To be totally honest Chris was scared too, how many people can jump out it's 25 story window and not be scared? He then started to wrap himself around Jennifer before the process finished. He tried to cover up as much of Jennifer as he could before he hit the ground. It was much like having a living statue trying to smother you. Chris' atomic structure was as dense as it was going to go so he just waited for the impact. At first there was only Jennifers screamig, then he hit the ground. The impact was enormous, he could hear the quake that resounded around him as if a mountain had erupted. The ground shaked, the sound drummed in his ears, and then all was silent. He slowly un hardened his body and let Jennifer go. She shot straight up and climbed to the top of the big crater he was laying in. After watching her stumble over the top ridge Chris stood up and walked out of the shadowy crater. He peered over the top and looked at all the debris near the impact sight. Cars were turned over, huge blocks of concrete were thrown into the air, and bodies of the dammed were just now hitting the ground. As soon as Chris got up from the crater and swept all the dust off of him, Jennifer hounded on him. "YOU COULD'VE KILLED ME!" Jennifer all caps raged "YOU BARELY KNOW ME AND YOU'RE ALREADY THROWING ME OUT WINDOWS, I COULD'VE DIED". "But you didn't" Chris' measly attempt at arguing. Then Jennifer let out a big angry yell into the air and stalked off. Chris after a little sulking behind he finally caught up and said "hey at least we didn't have to climb down those stairs right?". Jennifer looked at him calmly and then proceeded to flip him the bird.

Confused, Drake watched Tristan simply walk off, half-naked from removing his bloody clothes.

"Um...thanks?"

Shrugging off this strange encounter, Drake rejoiced at the fact that his bass was now back in his hands, and his hands alone. Suddenly, a creaking sound came from Drake's right side.

Without a second thought, Drake whipped around, blasting a bass note at the source of the unnerving creaking noise. Debris and glass exploded out the building as a zombie's body busted through the great glass pane window, flying back from the shock of Drake's unexpected attack. Drake listened, to make sure his assailant hadn't survived...

"Hmm. Nothing. Looks like you were just too much for him, eh Ivan?"

Content with himself, Drake proceeded into the elevator, ignoring the splattered fiend slunk over on the floor; his blood painted over the interior. Closing the elevator doors, Drake clicked the "Level 2" button, and simply hummed to the corny elevator music that still played over the intercom.

"Now let me see...What was the name of this building again?"

As Tristan started to walk away he heard a very loud, ear piercing sound come from the room he was just in. Being the selfless person he is, he ran back to see if ewryone was alright. When he returned he noticed the giant hole in the wall and was a bit confused. The kid with the bass was standing in the elevator as if it were going to work but it wasn't going anywhere. The elevator wires must have snapped. Tristan began to laugh. It being none of his business, he walked away.

Walking through the basement corridors Tristan grew weary of his surroundings. He opened a pair of double doors leading to the outside. As he opened the doors a flock of zombies freaked out and started towards him. Tristan shut the doors and quickly found a crowbar to barricade the doors like an old fashioned zombie movie.

"Shit! Well at least that worked.......talking to myself........yep."

Tritan ran back to another corridor an followed it until he reached a flight of stairs. He quickly ran up them frantically trying to get as far away as the zombie horde! He ran and ran. Finally he reached the roof. He ran across the roof to the edge to see how far up he actually was. He was up about 25 floors. No way of getting down. He went to another side and saw a balcony just 2 floors below him.

"Must be some luxury suite!" he said in hope of not dying.

He climbed over te side and fell down. Just barely missing the balcony bar with his head, he hit hard! Right on his back.

"GOD mother of mercy! Ooooowwwww!" he yelled over exaggerating. He wasn't that badly injured and got up.

He walked through another pair of double doors into what he thought was a nice suite. Truth be told it was a dumpy old room with construction being done.

"dammit."

Tristan went into the bathroom an ran yet another shower. He got in a washed all the guts an blood off of him and his clothing. His clothing now drenched and him all dry he left the bathroom to find an air blowing machine and he hung his clothes in front of it and within minutes the clothes were dry. He got dressed and pondered on why to do. He almost wished he would have stayed with the guys he met. Regretting his decision to leave he sat on the ground. He began to meditate.......about his power and how to control it.

After some time he heard grumbling in the hall. He got up and peeked out of the door that happened to be unlocked. Three zombies were standing in the hall.

"Is there anywhere safe anymore?!?"

His meditation seemed to make him realize a way to control his power. With his head hanging out the door he also put his hand out. With much concentration the walls in the hall began to rumble. Suddenly the walls crashed inward smashing the zombies. Tristan could hear the crunch of the bones and guts.

"How the he'll did I do that?!? That was cool!"

Unfortunately the 23 floor began to crash down. Tristan didn't know what to do but run. He ran down down down the stairs until he reached the bottom floor and opened the doors to the outside. Turning around and looking up the 25-22 floor broke down and imploded to the center of the building. Uncertain of what the inside of the building has done.

Tristan walked tothe building across the street. Broke in and hid behind the counter and fell asleep.......

Chris swiftly walked behind Jennifer trying not to stay to close. Although he knew she had cooled down he didn't want to take his chances. They skirted main roads and took back alleys to stay away from the increasing horde. There were the occasional zombie or two but Chris was uushually the one who dispatched them. "We're getting close!" Jennifer yelled back as she skipped ahead. Chris chased after her down the alleyway to an open parking lot. "Oh shit" Chris said looking over the dumpster they had taken refuge behind. The parking lot ahead of them was covered with drooling, spitting ghouls. Beyond the endless heads of the dammed was the building she spoke of. "There it is! Behind all of these zombies". "Yeah seems a pretty easy task", he said sarcastically,"it definitely doesn't look like the warehouse you wanted to go to does it? Come on let's go find another place." She suddenly turned around and climbed a fire escape behind her. When she was on the third floor she looked over top of the brainless fools and said "there's a gate around the building! Keeping the zombies out! If we can get over the fence then we should be good from there!"Chris was already there with her and saw for himself that there was a wall around the building and it looked pretty safe. "Hmmmmm ok let's do this". Chris sat there for a couple of minutes to think of how he could get into the warehouse without killing Jennifer. I mean getting himself in was one thing but getting her in with him was totally different. He finally had an idea. Chris started to climb the building leaving Jennifer on the fire escape. He reaches the top (about 5 stories up) and looked around. Almost the entire building was surrounded by zombies. Why were there so many? Chris thought to himself, but as usual he didnt really take any mind to it. He started to judge the distance between them and the building. It wasnt to far it seemed, although he hoped he wasnt wrong. "Well here goes everything", Chris turned around and walked to the other end of the building he was on. He took one last steady breath before he ran as fast as he could towards the warehouse on the other side of the field of zombies. Once he reached the edge of the building he took a perfect 10/10 dive heading straight for the concrete. Making sure he leaped in a spiraling fasion he started to harden his entire body in a spear shape. Hands out in front and feet clasp tight together, he gained speed rapidly. Within seconds he could hear the wind whistling past his body. The first zombie he hit, split its head right in half and he drilled through two more before hitting the concrete. At first he thought he wouldnt have enough momentum, but once he had tunneled past the hard concrete he was gaining alot of distance through the soft dirt and gravel. Once he thought he was far enough he angled his body upwards. By this time though he had lost alot of speed. He slowed to a stop in the dark dank tunnel. Softening his atoms he said "Shit!". Not knowing what to do next, he cupped his hands and densed them. He started to dig by hand through the sickening darkness. The first couple of minutes werent so bad but he became to feel closed in and alone. The creeping silence was so pungent that it was like he could taste it. Chris started to get very nervous and started to tunnel faster but no matter how fast he went he seemed to be going nowhere. As if he was trapped within his own mind. He got tired fast and his muscles ached as the intense digging pounded through his entire being. He was about to give up when he finally reached a layer on hard concrete. Excitment exploded through him as he turned his hands to fists and pounded away at the stone. At last he saw a sliver of light and punched the final punch straight through to the other side. Chris gulped in the fresh air, and flopped out of the hole onto the ground. Suddenly alert by the threat of zombies, he jumped up ready for a fight. He looked around and realized he was only a few feet from the warehouse. "Damn, I'm good" he said looking about at the zombies clawing at the seemingly invincible gate. He suddenly heard grunting and looked back down the hole. Jennifers hand shot out and he helped her back on her feet. "I cant even believe that worked" she said shaking all the dirt out of her hair, "but thats what matters right?". Chris totally ignoring her statement asked "how'd you get past the first couple of zombies?" She replied "dont worry about it. Come on lets go get that bed and let you . . . . . . rest up". Chris followed Jennifer reluctant to lay down.

Re: Neo-Nowhere: Book One - Welcome To The Neighborhood [CLOSED]

Post  FourStringFingerSting on Tue Aug 23, 2011 1:14 pm

Waiting for the elevator to move, Drake continued to carelessly hum to the incessant tune coming out of the elevator. Impatient, Drake pushed the "Level 2" button again, but there was still no movement...Suddenly, a rattling sound came from above. The hatch on the roof of the elevator flung open, and a gas started to pour into the interior of the elevator, the air growing thicker and thicker. Suddenly, Drake's head started to feel very light, and faint. His eyes began to droop, as if weights were dragging his eyelids down further and further...

Instantly, Drake snapped out of this almost comatose state, and started mashing on the "release doors" button to set him free.

"Shit! Why isn't this stupid thing working!"

Barely having a breath to spare, and the effects of this sleeping powder starting to take a toll on his consciousness, Drake continually blasted note after note at the steel elevator doors, until they finally bent outwards far enough for him to squeeze out. Rolling onto the ground, Drake drew in a breath of fresh air, hacking his lungs out from the effects of the gas.

"What the hell was that all about?"

Curious, Drake proceeded to ascend the staircase, and keep a close eye out for anything suspicious. Gripping his bass tightly, he reached the top of the steps, and stared ominously down the dimly lit hallway, various doors flung open, and blood painted on sections of the wall. Listening closely, Drake's keen sense of hearing picked up a disturbing sound...heavy wheezing coming from an open doorway about 15 steps away...

Giving Ivan the death-grip, Drake prepared himself, knowing someone or something was in that room, and odds are, they weren't going to be throwing him a welcoming party. Steeling himself, Drake slowly but surely took one step after another, never slackening his gaze on the open doorway. The wheezing grew closer and closer, as he took yet another step, and another, and another. After what seemed like an eternity, Drake found himself gazing into the eye of darkness, the room a pitch black canvas, save for a very dim light coming from the window on the opposite side of the room, where little light shed in from the dark alleyway nearby. Suddenly, the wheezing stopped. A disturbing silence filled the air, Drake still ready to blast away anything that jumped at him at any moment...A crooping voice revealed itself, shadowed by the corner of the room, where a small, faint glow could be seen.
"Look here...Another youngin' looking for nothing but death...*cough cough*"

The voice lurked forward, his silhouette forming in the faint sunlight coming from the window...Drake could see a mangled form, with spore like pods and black orifices surrounding his back, and arms. The creature drew a cigarette from his mouth, puffing the smoke in Drake's direction.

"Smoke? Hahahahah- hork! *cough* *cough*"

Drake, wildly repulsed by the man's figure, started to back pedal, when a rough growl erupted from the room.

"I wouldn't recommend *cough* leaving...Come on now...Stay awhile. We could share a laugh or two!"

Suddenly, a mist erupted from the man's body, as the mangled figure continued to cough and wheeze wildly, as if barely able to draw a breath. Drake, still not letting his guard down, let out a bass blast into the room, knocking the figure back into a table, the mist still spreading. Not wanting to risk breathing in the no doubt deadly mist the disfigured creature had concocted, Drake slammed the door shut, and waited for the right moment to strike...

"Well well...*cough* Looks like you've got a bit more punch than most that have wandered through here...No matter...*cough* The gas I'm spreading is enough to soak through this entire building, and just like the others before you, you'll succumb to it...You see, I like to think of myself as a spider...My webs grow outstretched and far...*cough* It's not long before an unwary fly gets caught in it, and simply dozes off...Eventually, I'll find them, sleeping away...And then my pets can feed..."

His voice echoed from the corridor, as if he was the building itself. Suddenly, it snapped in Drake's mind...

"Damn, I need to get out of here before this gas really puts me under!"

Looking back down the corridor, Drake's eyes fixated on the staircase.

"To the roof!" Drake said, sprinting towards the staircase, and making his way up to the top of the building.

Re: Neo-Nowhere: Book One - Welcome To The Neighborhood [CLOSED]

Post  Xenomorph13 on Tue Aug 23, 2011 7:14 pm

After sleeping for some time Tristan woke up in complete darkness. Unsure of what caused the darkness he also had no clue on how to do to produce any light. He quickly came to his senses and decided to look round in the dark for the door. Maybe there was a streetlight. After stumbling and tripping numerous times he found a door handle and twisted it. He opened the door and it led to outside revealing that it was still day. He walked into the street and turned back to see that shutters had been keeping the door and windows dark.

"Typical.....what do I do?"

He also looked up at the other hotel building and saw a mysterious gas leaking from some of the windows.

"What is that? I hope it's not deadly, I also hope those other guys got out just incase it is deadly. Maybe I should go back in and check......"

Tristan proceeded back into the hotel building to find it almost beaten down. The walls were dusty and the air was thick. Lamps, tables and desks were busted all over the floor. The only thing that seemed to be in decent shape was the extravagant chandelier hanging by a tall staircase. The only way he could go is up, but something caught Tristan's eye. In an office behind the main desk was and cash register, barely visible through a shady window. Tristan headed that way. Behind the desk was a dead body of an old man. He was torn up and bloody. It was a shame.

"Must have been the teller. Poor fool."

Tristan stepped over him trying not to disturb the body. He grabbed the handle of the office door and opened it. Inside was another dead body. A middle aged woman. Unfortunate yet again. Tristan went for the cash register and realized that it was of course not as simple as he thought it was to open. So he grabbed a nearby blunt object and smashed it until it was very bent up. Tristan began to focus and he used his mind to open the register.

"Why didn't I think of that first? Wow I'm dumb...."

Inside of the cash register was a stick of Juicy Fruit, and about $333.67.

"Damn it's my lucky day or whatever!"

Tristan then exited the room and began heading up the stairs he had previously seen. As he went up the stairs the air got even thicker and thicker. Unable to breathe he contemplated on turning back. He decided to press on for the sake of others. That he wasn't even sure was in the building. He figured since the accident he felt useless at the orphanage so he never wanted to feel useless again no matter the circumstances.

Tristan still proceeded up the stairs. Unsure of what's to come. He reached a floor that didn't have that thick of air. He went down the hall and started to yell for anyone but realized it was a bad idea to do that. A few floors down he could hear a loud grumbling noise.

"I don't think anyone is in here anymore. They aren't stupid enough to stay here."

Tristan headed back down the stairs and in the lobby saw a large group of zombies huddled around a small group of live non-infected people. Tristan hid behind the stairs and watched. It was dark and foggy. The victims were tied up and crying for mercy. All at once the zombies lunged at the people and murdered them all. Blood flying everywhere. tristan had no choice but to sneak back up the stairs. Tristan sneaked back up the stairs and went further than the previous floor he was on. He actually just decided to just get to the roof. How he was going to get down was unknown. But it was his only choice. Tristan reached the top floor and paused at the exit to the roof for a breather.........

Every step growing longer and larger, Drake struggled to make it up the steps, feeling the gas starting to fill the floor below him. It followed him with a ghastly intention, the intoxicating mist slowly catching up with him no matter how fast he scrambled up the stairs. Eventually, with a desperate breath, Drake made it to the top of the stair, where his eyes met with the exit hatch to the roof, and the same blood-spattered boy who had stolen his bass guitar before. Except now it seemed he was graced with the gift of a shower.

"You! Open that hatch quick! Any longer inside and we'll pass out from the gas! Be prepared for anything on the other side! HURRY!"

"Hmmm, so this is the place."

Vladimir said to himself as he stood in the middle of the street in an unknown city he has been drawn to.

"Now... where should I go from here." Vladimir looked around seeing a tall building which looked like an explosion has hit it. "Is that smoke? Hmmm, looks like I missed a party, I think I'll pass on helping the clean up." He continued scanning his surroundings. "Hmm... something seems to be calling me to that mall... I think I'll head tha..."

and with that something lunged at him wildly. Vlad quickly back stepped, "What the hell was that!" The creature which appeared to be human in nature turned and tried to attack again. Vlad quickly crouched and swept it off it's feet with a kick. "Why are you attacking me!?" only snarls came from the creature as it tried to bite Vlad's leg. *Sssiiink* *sink click* The head of the creature flew off so quickly that anyone watching would have thought it happened on its own. "Rest your soul creature, but I have reasons I can't let you slow me down any longer for." Vlad started walking towards the mall with a single laugh thinking to himself how fast his sword draw had become.

Clack, clack. clack, clack, clack..

Idly watching the stone land against the broad paving stones, Red Coat stares past it as though lost in thought.

"Tch.. So much to do. But what?"
Leaning forward on the richly engraved bench in front of the mall, in a sort of circular plaza, he runs a hand through his long bangs and lowers his eyes to his feet.
"Talking to myself again. But why does it feel like someone else is listening?" His lips quirk in a half-smile at the end of that, and he barks a laugh.
It is hot out, the sun beating down across the thick stones of the plaza and the walkways surrounding it. Leaving the comfort of the bench to crouch low on the hot stones, Red Coat places two fingers of his right hand into his other sleeve, drawing out a slender, double-edged knife.
"Time to see what I'll be doing first," he says, and suits his words by pressing the blade to the tip of his finger, applying just enough pressure to draw a small trickle of rich blood before setting the knife aside.
"A-siki(la) " he slurrs, in a slow, drawling voice, and presses his brush to the canvas, painting a small, yet perfect circle in deep red.
For a moment, the thick lines seem to..sink in.. to the paving stones, then are back to normal so fast it is almost as though it never happened, or the mind was playing tricks. Tracing a few more lines around the circle, then a large, blocky area that oddly resembles the mall.. And other lines that stray off in the distance.
Scooping up a handful of small stones, he shakes them around before scattering them across his painting.
They twirl through the air before..

Clack, clack-clack-clatter-clack..

The stones land oddly, three off somewhat close together, some ways from the circle. One nearly to the plaza and.. bloody stones everywhere, ones that touched the lines and somehow soaked up this strange magic, for some reason they all happen to be smaller stones as well. As though they weren't as important. And one stone sitting in the plaza, about where Red Coat would be sitting. A deep black, with rich red flecks.
Suddenly three stones began moving of their own accord, small red ones that is. Entering the painted circle at a slow pace.
"Tch.."
Without looking up, Red Coat snatched the knife that lay next to his foot and flung it to ahead and to the side of him, lodging it neatly in the ankle of an infected.
"Gaaaghhh!" it rasped as the foot lost function, delaying its meal. It didn't much mind.
The other two didn't have much time for more than surprised expressions on their twisted faces as he turned to them and shook his head, no laughter this time. Black ichor surged from the painting in an odd shape, almost as if the painting lifted itself from the ground and contorted into a web, bending this way and that, dripping thick drops that hit the stones only to work their way back to the oddly-structured mass that hurled itself at the other two.

Turning away from his victims, Red Coat glanced at the one he had injured, now no longer lumbering towards him but eyeing the two vainly trying to struggle their way out of the shadowy ichor that began to envelop them, pressing them against the pavement.
"I'm pretty fond of my knives, and that one looks lodged in the bone. You going to give it to me, or will I have to take it?"
The zombie eyed its 'comrades', now somehow pressed impossibly far against the pavement..as though sinking through it with the ichor that slowly began to dissipate. Looking back to this strange being it did not understand, it rested its black gaze on him with as much of a level look as it could muster after watching him so casually dismiss its friends. Tilting its head, it says,
"He did not tell us of you. Did he create you too....?" Hesitation. Not fully understanding. What is this being?"
"No," Red Coat says bluntly, "but you will tell me who 'He' is."
A sick smile crosses his face.
"Now about that knife.."

Heading towards the mall which seemed to be beckoning out to him, Vladimir realized one very important detail he neglected to think of.

"Hmm, in heading to this mall I seem to have gotten lost..." Vladimir pondered. "This city seems so vast and all these roads and side streets, so much like home, but just so unfamiliar." Then...

"Heeellllllppppp us!" "Please someone!"

"What is that!?" Vlad ran towards the screaming to find a swarm of roughly 7 infected crowding a young woman and a small male child. "I have to save them, they don't deserve something like this." Vlad ran into the fray of infected and with all his momentum threw a spinning kick knocking three infected back and putting him next to the woman and child.

"Who are you?" Asked the woman. "Don't worry about it, just stay down and run when I tell you" The grouping of infected realizing the increase in prey seemed to react in a teamed effort and jumped at the trio. *FLASH* They all were sent flying back due to their own momentum.

"What is this?" The boy asked in awe. "What's happening, how are we not being eaten?" The woman gasped. "Well," stated Vlad, "Let's just say it's a gift I've been given" as he flashes the barrier down and runs at two infected *crack* the handle of his sword uppercutting one in the jaw as he feels the blow snap it's neck he spins and catches the second with his sheathe, "Go Away!" flinging it into a wall. Another jumps at Vlad, he swiftly puts up a barrier, "That wont work so easily" Unsheathing his sword he jumps at the stunned foe and impales its skull. Flinging himself off the dying corpse, a diving kick is delivered to the fourth infected, another killing blow.

"Look out!" Cried the woman, as the three remaining charge him. "Shit!" Vlad shouts as he realizes his sword is still in the second to attack. "Well I guess it's as good a time as any..." four small cyan flashes go off and Vlad charges the three. A flurry of strikes and flashes are seen by the woman and boy and then stood Vladimir with the same aura that provided a barrier for the group earlier, only four smaller orbs around his hands and feet.

"Thank you for saving us!" Cried the women in near tears. "It's what father would have wanted" replied Vlad. "How can we thank you sir?" The boy asked. "No need... WAIT! How can I get to the mall?"

After the woman explained the direction she insisted Vladimir come and rest at there home, she promised it was close to the mall. After about five minutes of arguing he had to go, and the two insisting on and on he stay, Vlad accompanied them to the home, closer to his destination than he would have been if he had not done his good deed.

While taking his breather, Tristan heard frantic footsteps heading up the stairs. It was the guy who had claimed the bass he found in the elevator. Tristan heard the screaming the guy was trying to pass to him.

"You! Open that hatch quick! Any longer inside and we'll pass out from the gas! Be prepared for anything on the other side! HURRY!" The guy said

Tristan began to panic about this gas. He thought it had just been some sort of dust. Maybe even some sort of thick odor. Although earlier while running up the stairs, Tristan had noticed being somewhat tired and non-responsive to his surroundings, thinking it was just fatigue-ness.

Tristan shouted back, "Well what is this stuff? Is the military finally here? Is it some sort of noxious gas bomb?"

Tristan acting as though he never said anything he pushed open the door to reveal the roof ahead. Not only was it the roof but along with it were a few unlucky zombies ahead. Whilst the zombies moaned and moved towards us, Tristan turned around and jammed the door shut by using his power to create a field around the hinges to prevent them from moving. They didn't seem very strong but it would serve some purpose.

"Alright guy.......let's take care of these freaks. They are starting to piss me off!"

With that said Tristan saw a nearby propane tank, with his chance to strike, with the zombies still quite aways away, he telekinetically picked up the propane tank and lunged it at one blowing its head off and landing hard back onto the roof.

Tristan then unbuttoned his trench coat so that he could maneuver better, pulled out his knife from behind his coat.

"Alright one down, let's go......"

In an instant, Drake had burst through the door, and already saw blood spilling as a propane tank whisked through the air and ripped the head off a nearby ghoul. Turning to Tristan, it finally clicked in his head that he was not the only one who was graced with powers.

"Right on!"

Ready to do some competitive zombie-smashing of his own, Drake reached into his pocket, and pulled out his walkman.

"Now...what music should I stomp you into the ground to?"

The zombies slowly started to converge on Drake, their meal drawing closer and closer. Drake paid no mind to them, as he continued to scroll though his absurd music library, searching for the perfect song.

"No...no...Awesome, but no..."

The fiends drew closer and closer, blood-stained teeth and jutted bones connected to torn flesh impatiently shambling towards Drake. Just a few short yards away...

"Maybe...WAIT, HERE WE GO!"

Chuckling to himself, Drake let the incessant noise build up more and more as the zombies came nearer and nearer. Suddenly, at the climax, with a row of zombies mere feet away, Drake whipped Ivan around, lobbing off the heads of the undead with a swift bass swing. The impact sent bass notes flying, hitting another small group of zombies some distance away, and launching them back even further.

"M1 A1, losers; learn it."
